How Powder Coating Works
1
Blasting & Surface Prep
Parts are sandblasted to remove mill scale, rust, and contamination — creating a clean, slightly rough profile for maximum adhesion.
2
Pre-Treatment Wash
Parts are chemically cleaned and phosphate-treated to prevent corrosion under the coating and improve long-term adhesion.
3
Electrostatic Application
Dry polymer powder is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the grounded part — the charge makes powder wrap all surfaces evenly.
4
Curing Oven
Parts are baked at 375–400°F for 15–20 minutes. The powder melts, flows, and crosslinks into a hard, durable polymer finish.
Why Powder Coat?

Powder coating is the most durable, consistent, and environmentally friendly finish available for metal parts. Unlike liquid paint, there are no solvents — zero VOC emissions, minimal waste, and a finish that resists chipping, scratching, UV, and moisture far better than standard paint.

It's the go-to finish for parts that need to look great and last in demanding environments — from industrial enclosures to consumer products, automotive brackets to outdoor furniture.

How It Works
1
Inspection
Parts are inspected for burrs, dross, and sharp edges left from laser or waterjet cutting. Problem areas are flagged.
2
Hand Deburring
Technicians use hand files, rotary tools, and deburring blades to break all sharp edges — especially around holes, slots, and complex profiles.
3
Vibratory Tumbling (optional)
Parts up to 12"×12" are loaded into a vibratory tumbler with ceramic or plastic media. The tumbling action smooths all surfaces uniformly, brightens the metal, and removes micro-burrs.
4
Final Rinse & Dry
Tumbled parts are rinsed, dried, and inspected before moving to the next operation or packaging.
When To Use Deburring

Laser and waterjet cutting leave sharp edges that can cut hands during assembly, damage mating surfaces, and cause premature paint or coating failure. Deburring solves all three.

We recommend deburring on any part that will be handled frequently, used in consumer or food-grade applications, or powder coated — a smooth edge holds coating far better than a sharp one.

How Sandblasting Works
1
Part Masking
Threads, critical surfaces, and any areas to be left unblasted are masked off with tape or plugs before processing.
2
Abrasive Blasting
Compressed air propels abrasive media (aluminum oxide, glass bead, or steel shot) at the part surface — stripping mill scale, rust, paint, and oxidation while creating a defined surface profile.
3
Blow-Off & Inspection
Parts are blown clean with dry air, visually inspected for coverage, and compared against the specified cleanliness standard (Sa 2 or Sa 2.5).
4
Immediate Processing
Blasted steel must be primed or coated within hours — bare blasted steel flashes rust quickly. We coordinate this with your powder coat or primer step automatically.
Why Sandblast?

Sandblasting accomplishes two things at once: it cleans the surface to bare metal (removing all mill scale, rust, and contamination), and it creates a uniform surface profile (microscopic roughness) that gives coatings a mechanical grip far stronger than any chemical adhesion alone.

It's mandatory prep for any coating that needs to perform in harsh, outdoor, or industrial conditions. It's also used on its own as a decorative matte finish on stainless and aluminum.
